There is a certain mystic when living near the coastline of an ocean. One day it could contain a beauty unsurpassed for you and your family to enjoy. Another day it could contain damaging and devastating storms that can destroy the security and safety of your family and your home. People who live near the coastline understand the importance of Hurricane and High Impact Resistant windows.

Hurricane windows come with high impact laminated glass to protect your home from category 5 hurricanes with up to 150 mile per hour winds. Flying debris can impact a window and create a design pressure force strong enough to blow your homes roof completely off. Rather than board up your windows with plywood and create a darkness to fear and increase your anxiety you can now protect your home and its valuables with California Doors and Windows Hurricane windows and doors.

Our Hurricane windows and doors are rated to withstand forced entry and are large missile resistant. Large missile resistant means that our windows have been tested and exposed to various impacts with a piece of lumber weighing approximately 9 pounds, the size of the lumber was a 2” X 4” X 6’ and was traveling at a speed of 50 feet per second which amounts to 34 MPH. The lumber must pass positive and negative wind loads for 9,000 cycles, with the impact creating a hole no larger than 1/16” X 5” into the interlayer of the glass pane.

Small missile resistant is a product that has been exposed to various impacts with 10 ball bearings traveling at a speed of 80 feet per second which amounts to 50 MPH. The product is then subjected to extreme wind loads for 9,000 cycles.

You are responsible for the security and safety of your family and your home. Even though the impact test does not guarantee the windows and doors will survive the hurricane, they have been tested to simulate similar conditions that are present in all hurricane and high wind conditions. The bottom line is; if you can maintain the structural shell of your home or business you will drastically decrease any significant damage that may occur.
